The D litter represents one of our favourite combinations — the elegant refinement of the American colourpoint shorthair matched with the larger size and lower earset of the European Oriental shorthairs. The fact that these are the combination of two of our absolute favourite cats is just icing on the cake. Flare is very close to perfection, with an amazing body, a pattern to die for, great eye colour and eye shape, and most importantly, a fantastic temperament. She took the show hall by storm in 2015 - 2016, earning two national titles (5th best kitten and 9th best champion) as well as her Supreme Master Grand Championship. Balance has made a number of litters, both in our household and with other local breeders, and he very clearly passes on his amazing eye colour, his super long and graceful body, and he’s great at lowering too high earsets. And of course, he has a worldwide fan club of people who adore his charming, ridiculously silly, goofy, and wonderful personality.
We have been looking forward to these kittens since we brought home their parents. Flare went into labour in early afternoon on July 18th, and had all six kittens in the span of two hours. She is an amazing mother, caring and dutiful, and absolutely loves her teensies.
This litter has a Coefficient of Inbreeding of 0.0141% over 10 generations. COI is important to determine the likelihood of the more frequent surfacing of disease genes and of the syndrome called "inbreeding depression" which produces weaker individuals. A COI of 10% or lower is generally considered ideal, though we prefer to keep as low as possible, and usually aim for a litter below 5%.
This litter is between a PRA carrier (N/rAdc) and a PRA negative cat. All kittens will be tested to determine their status. PRA is a disease that affects all cats in the Siamese breed group and causes premature blindness. Practicalcats will never breed a PRA affected litter.
Kittens that are marked "OPTION" are likely to be reserved, but no final decision has been made. Reservations are taken no earlier than 8 weeks (and often later, as we watch the kittens grow up and verify who will be staying here), and kittens that are marked "RESERVED" are no longer available. If for any reason a kitten becomes available again after an initial reservation, it will be re-listed as "AVAILABLE”.
Unless something remarkable happens, all of these kittens will go to people already on our waiting list. If you are interested in a future litter (which may be some time), we will want to get to know you and for you to get to know us. Please read our TERMS & CONDITIONS and contact us.
